Description:
Historical Introduction. The Michelson - Morley experiment. The Principle of Relativity. Principle of constancy of the speed of light. Einstein's postulates and the Lorentz transformation. Some mathematical consequences: simultaniety, time dilation,
Lorentz-Fitzgerald contraction, Doppler shift, proper time. Relativistic Kinematics: velocity transformations, aberration of light from the stars, reflection of light by a moving mirror, appearance of rapidly moving objects. Relativistic mechanics: mass of moving particle, definition of force, work and kinetic energy of elastic collissiona, equivalence of mass and energy, exaples. Experimental verification of Special Theory of relativity. Electromagnetic 4-vectors transformation of E & H.

Assessment is by assignments and examination.
